The Pharmaceutical Laboratory provides both analytical and investigative services mainly to the Health Products Regulation Group on the regulatory testing of pharmaceutical and health products under the Health Products Act, Medicines Act and Poisons Act. This is to ensure the quality and safety of health products sold in Singapore.
We support regulatory testing activities in ensuring the quality and safety of western medicines and complementary health products in Singapore. Our Laboratory also serves the Singapore Police Force, hospitals and clinics.
Since 1993, the Laboratory has been established as a World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Medicines Quality Assurance to review monographs for The International Pharmacopoeia and assess test procedures and technical articles for WHO. The Laboratory also assists the WHO Collaborating Centre for Chemical Reference Substances to validate international reference standards and is a training centre for pharmaceutical analysis and advanced instrumentation.
The Laboratory is involved in collaborative ASEAN project to establish pharmaceutical reference standards for the ASEAN countries. Stringent tests are performed by member countries on candidate materials before they are formally adopted as ASEAN reference standards.
