The laboratory analyses the presence of controlled drugs in seizures. The drugs commonly analysed include:
- Heroin
- Cannabis
- Amphetamines (including “Ice” and “Ecstasy” tablets)
- Ketamine
- Benzodiazepines
- Buprenorphine

The service also includes the issuing of analytical reports and providing expert testimony in court proceedings. In addition, the laboratory also provides consultations and training in the analysis of drugs of abuse and carries out research and investigation work in this area to improve and strengthen its analytical capability.
