Medical Advertisements & Sales Promotion

The objective of advertisement control of medicinal products is to ensure that medicinal products advertised or promoted for sale to the general public do not affect public health, mislead or induce unnecessary use.

The advertisement and promotion of medicinal products are controlled under the Medicines Act 1975 and its subsidiary legislation, the Medicines (Medical Advertisements) Regulation 1977.


Types of Medical Advertisements and Sales Promotion Permit

  • An advertisement in Still media
    Refers to any advertisement that is static or in print media, e.g. newspapers, magazines, leaflets, shelf-talkers.

  • An advertisement in Sound media
    Refers to any advertisement broadcast over radio, rediffusion or any audio recording.

  • An advertisement in Light and Sound media
    Refers to any advertisement with light and sound effects, e.g. television, video, cinema advertisements.

  • A Sales Promotion
    Refers to any activities with the purpose of introducing, publicizing or promoting the sales of a medicinal product, e.g. discount, banded offers.
