Currently, only contact lens care products, radiation emitting devices and condoms come under statutory control through certain provisions in the Medicine Act and Radiation Protection Act.
Contact Lens Substance
Legislation presently applicable to the importation and sales of contact lens substances in Singapore are:
- Medicines (Contact Lens Substances) (Labelling And Containers) Regulations
- Medicines (Contact Lens Substances) (Specification And Prohibition) Order: there exists a statutory prohibition on sale or supply or importation of contact lens substances which fails to comply with any of the requirements set out in the Second Schedule.
Condoms
Legislation presently applicable to importation and sales of condom in Singapore are:
- Medicines (Import of Condoms) Regulations: it is a statutory requirement that all imported consignments of condoms are not to be sold on the local market without prior batch testing by the Health Sciences Authority or its authorized analyst; and
- Medicines (Quality of Condoms)(Specification and Prohibition) Order: there exists a statutory prohibition on sale and supply and importation of condoms which fails to comply with ISO 4074:2002 standard.
Radiation Emitting Devices
Legislation presently applicable to radiation emitting medical devices such as X-ray equipment, medical ultrasound apparatus, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) apparatus, medical lasers, etc are:
- Radiation Protection (Ionising Radiation) Radiation Regulations
- Radiation Protection (Non-ionising Radiation) Regulations
