The Tobacco Regulation Branch was set up in 1989 to administer and enforce the smoking control legislation, with the objective of reducing the prevalence of smoking among Singaporeans. The three major areas of controls were restrictions on smoking-related advertisements, limits on tar and nicotine content in cigarettes, and the requirement for health warning labels on tobacco products.
