The table below highlights the amount of blood products needed by a single patient with the following conditions:

Heart surgery
2-10 units of blood, and possibly platelet transfusions
Cancer treatment (chemo-therapy)
5-7 units of blood weekly
20 units of platelets weekly
Burns
8-40 units of blood and platelets
Serious traffic/industrial accident
20-50 units of red blood cells
Bone marrow transplant
120 units of platelets
20 units of red blood cells
Heart or liver transplant
30-40 units of blood
30 units of platelets
20 bags of cryo-precipitate
25 units of fresh frozen plasma
