Clinical & Forensic Toxicology


Scope of Services

The Clinical and Forensic Toxicology (CFT) Unit provides a comprehensive range of toxicological analyses for clinical investigation and medico-legal purposes. The services include:

  • Antemortem (or clinical) toxicology, including emergency toxicology
    • to help in the diagnosis and management of suspected drug overdose
  • Postmortem toxicology
    • to exclude or ascertain poisoning or drug overdose as a cause of death
  • Forensic toxicology
    • to ascertain blood alcohol or drug levels in suspected driving under the influence (DUI) cases, and drug-facilitated crimes (e.g. rape, murder, theft)
  • Therapeutic drug monitoring
  • Drug screening prior to brain-death certification
  • Drugs and poisons screen in scene exhibits
    • to help establish if the exhibits could be linked to the poisoning/death/crime
  • Occupational biological monitoring

Monday – Thursday 0800 – 1730
Friday 0800 – 1700
