The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) and Singapore Red Cross (SRC) today recognised more than 2,200 committed blood donors and 32 blood champion organisations for their pivotal role in saving lives and steadfast support for the National Blood Programme. The awards were presented by Guest-of-Honour Mr Tan Kiat How, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Digital Development and Information & Ministry of Health. At the event, SMS Tan announced two new initiatives to recognise blood donors with HealthPoints and yuu Points (under PAssion membership), and launched the new Impact Multiplier Award for corporations.
2. The award ceremony was held in conjunction with World Blood Donor Day to raise global awareness on the need for safe blood and blood products, and to honour voluntary, unpaid donors for their life-saving contributions. Themed “The stories that continue," this year’s World Blood Donor Day's celebrations highlight the much larger, ongoing journey of a blood donor and reflect on the 80 long years of the National Blood Programme and the role it continues to play.
Growing and Recognising Corporate Participation
3. In his remarks, SMS Tan highlighted the challenge of the demand for blood being overtaken by supply in seven years. Efforts are needed to not just sustain but to ramp up the pipeline of potential donors. One of the key initiatives for corporates is the “Adopt a Bloodbank” programme, which encourages employers to make a sustained commitment to bringing in donors regularly. Employers play a key role in building a lasting corporate culture of blood donation, when they make it a norm for employees to donate blood during the workday. Since the programme was enhanced in October 2025, the number of Bloodbank adopters has doubled to 70 organisations. Between October 2025 and 31 May 2026, these organisations collectively brought in more than 1,500 new donors and more than 1,700 repeat donors.
4. On top of adopting Bloodbanks, corporations have also stepped forward to make blood donation more accessible and a seamless part of everyday life. SMS Tan launched the new Impact Multiplier Award this year to recognise organisations that demonstrate strong commitment to supporting blood donation efforts and raising awareness through impactful partnership initiatives over a one-year period. ARTBOX and POP MART received the award today, both of which have garnered more than 3,300 donors from their campaigns.
5. Since the launch of the 80 for 80 Blood Donation Marathon in April 2026, 12 organisations have held blood drives and group donations and brought in close to 1,200 donors. HSA and SRC warmly invite more organisations to join the marathon and be part of a movement that has, for eight decades, kept hope alive for patients across Singapore.
6. Mr Benjamin William, Secretary General & CEO of the Singapore Red Cross, said, “We are leveraging the influence and reach of well-loved businesses and organisations to catalyse interest in blood donation and to make blood donation a lifestyle. We have seen how creative collaborations drive curiosity and conversations around blood donation, and we will continue to forge such life-saving partnerships. We look forward to working with more organisations to multiply impact, especially in youth engagement, to secure our next-generation donors, who are the future of the National Blood Programme.”
Cultivating Donors for Life
7. Blood donation is, at its heart, an expression of generosity freely offered to others — and many donors find deep fulfilment in that act of giving. HSA and SRC recognise this through initiatives like the World Blood Donor Day celebrations and tokens of appreciation. These forms of appreciation are consistent with the World Health Organization’s definition of voluntary non-remunerated blood donation. This milestone year, HSA and SRC have partnered with more organisations to honour our donors' commitment.
8. The People's Association (PA), a longstanding partner of HSA and SRC, is offering 80 yuu Points as a PAssion membership benefit to every successful donor who donates at a PA-organised blood drive from 27 June to 31 December 2026, starting from the drive held at today’s World Blood Donor Day. POSB, as PA's partner, will make an equivalent donation to PA's PAssion CARES initiative for every yuu Point awarded, helping to support less privileged families. This means that every blood donation made at a PA drive contributes not only to up to three patients who need the blood, but also to the well-being of the wider community.
9. With more than 30 PA-organised blood drives coming up islandwide this year, residents will have greater convenience and more opportunities to donate close to home. Through this initiative, PA, HSA, and SRC hope to inspire more people to take that first step towards donation, and to encourage families and neighbours to come together in this meaningful act of giving back to society.
10. Adjunct Professor (Dr) Raymond Chua, Chief Executive Officer of HSA, said, “Our donors and partners form the bedrock of Singapore’s National Blood Programme. Partners like PA and religious organisations have been organising blood drives near where we all live, making it easier for all to do so, including together with their families and neighbours. They give many patients in Singapore the assurance of a safe and secured blood supply. We will need more like-minded partners and individuals, especially as we face the challenge of growing demand and shrinking youth donor population.”
11. The Healthpoints initiative announced in April 2026 by Mr Ong Ye Kung, Minister for Health and Coordinating Minister for Social Policies, will also commence from 27 June 2026, awarding eligible donors with 200 Healthpoints through the Healthy 365 app for every successful donation as a token of appreciation for maintaining the health status required to donate blood and for their contribution to Singapore’s blood supply resilience. This is equivalent to 100,000 steps, or 20 days of consistent daily walking.
Exhibition and Other Activities
12. At the event, SRC presented eight immersive experiences designed to educate, inspire, and celebrate the collective effort behind 80 years of the National Blood Programme. Through the Big Blood booth and a series of informative displays, guests were invited to step into the story of blood donation and gain a deeper understanding of the journey every donor goes through.
13. At the Humanitarian Hub, SRC showcased its work to uplift vulnerable persons and strengthen community resilience. Collaborative partners, National Kidney Foundation (NKF) and National Organ Transplant Unit (NOTU) also engaged participants on healthy lifestyles and sparked meaningful conversations on how their donations impact patients in need.
14. This year’s World Blood Donor Day also included movie screenings of stories of courage and community, to be enjoyed across generations. The event featured a blood donation drive with a real-time digital tracker, enabling attendees to follow the progress of blood collection throughout the event. The blood donation drive is expected to collect 180 units of blood.
