Medtronic International Limited (Medtronic) would like to inform healthcare professionals that the model 8870 software application card used with the 8840 clinician programmer is being updated to version BBR/01. This updated software corrects the two issues related to the SynchroMed II®pump of the SynchroMed Implantable Infusion System Therapy: Erroneous Replace by Date and Premature Reservoir Alarm. These issues were previously identified in a FSCA case (ref: HSA 600:41/01-009/12/05) in March 2012. Medtronic does not recommend prophylactic explant of the affected devices as these issues can be addressed automatically and noninvasively with the software card update. Healthcare professionals are advised to refer to the letter for details.
