Smith & Nephew Orthopaedics Ltd (‘Smith & Nephew’) would like to provide an update concerning the ongoing performance of the BIRMINGHAM HIP™ Modular Head (BHMH) in patients implanted with the device. Patients implanted with the BHMH may be at a greater risk for revision surgery due to a decline in the performance of the BHMH. Healthcare professionals are recommended to maintain their routine follow-up protocol for patients who have undergone total hip arthroplasty, and to determine the need for any additional patient follow-ups following detailed clinical assessments. Please refer to the letter for details.
