SynchroMed® II Implantable Drug Infusion Pump Models 8637-20 & 8637-40: Important Information Regarding Overinfusion

Medtronic International, Ltd. (Medtronic) would like to inform healthcare professionals of important information regarding overinfusion associated with the Medtronic SynchroMed® II Implantable Drug Infusion Pump. Medtronic has detected an upward shift in reports of occurrence for overinfusion. Overinfusion may result in life-threatening events due to drug overdose and may also result in drug withdrawal syndromes due to emptying of the pump prior to a planned refill. Healthcare professionals are advised to perform verification checks on their patients implanted with the SynchroMed® II Implantable Drug Infusion Pump; to always follow pump refill instructions, and to educate patients and caregivers on the signs and symptoms of drug overdose, underdose and withdrawal.
