Update on a new subgroup 3 and failure rates for HeartWare™ Ventricular Assist Device (HVAD™) System
A Dear Healthcare Professional Letter has been issued by Medtronic International Limited, as a follow-up to their earlier communications in January 2021, July 2021, March 2022 and October 2022, to inform healthcare professionals on the following:
a) An additional subgroup population, subgroup 3, has been identified which may experience a delay to restart or failure to restart the pump at a higher rate than the general HeartWare™ Ventricular Assist Device (HVAD™) population
b) Current failure rates associated with a failure or delay to restart pump event
c) Reiterate existing patient management recommendations which will also apply to subgroup 3
Healthcare professionals are advised to follow the patient management recommendations and to prepare an individualized care plan for each subgroup patient. Please refer to the letter for details.
