A Dear Healthcare Professional Letter has been issued by Medtronic International Limited to update healthcare professionals that field lubricant application to connectors of HeartWare™ HVAD™ System power sources (Battery, AC Adapter, and DC Adapter) to mitigate unexpected power supply interruption will no longer be required for models listed in the letter, as Medtronic has obtained the necessary regulatory approval for lubricant to be applied to the connectors of all HeartWare™ HVAD™ System power sources during manufacturing. Power sources models outside the range listed in the letter will still need lubricating servicing. This is a follow-up to an earlier communication issued in June 2018 to inform healthcare professionals on the requirement for lubricant application to all HeartWare™ HVAD™ System power sources to mitigate potential transient power supply interruption due to the effects of oxidation. Healthcare professionals are advised to work with their local Medtronic representative to determine whether any power sources require servicing and to schedule such service, as necessary. No action is needed for patients currently implanted with an HVAD™ Pump. Medtronic is currently not retrieving the product from the field. Please refer to the letter for details.
