Smith & Nephew Private Limited would like to notify healthcare professionals on the market discontinuation of all lots of 46mm diameter and smaller femoral heads and corresponding acetabular cup components of the BIRMINGHAM HIP Resurfacing (BHR) System. This recall is initiated due to observed revision rates which are higher than established benchmarks. BHR will also be contraindicated in all female patients. The Instructions for Use of BHR system will be updated to capture the required warnings. Healthcare professionals are advised to immediately remove and quarantine unused affected devices for return to the company. Please refer to the letter for details.
