Genetically Modified Micro-organisms
Genetically Modified Micro-organisms are micro-organisms with altered genes created through genetic engineering techniques.
General
Genetically Modified Micro-organisms (GMMs) derived from or presenting similar characteristics to biological agents listed under the First, Second and Fourth Schedules of the Biological Agents and Toxins Act (opens in new tab) (BATA) are regulated by the Health Sciences Authority. Controls applicable to these schedules shall also apply to the respective GMMs.
Biological agents under the Fourth Schedule generally do not require Approval for Possess unless the genetic modification process enhances their risk.
More information on genetic modification is available on the Genetic Modification Advisory Committee (opens in new tab) Website.
