How to prepare
If you're thinking of donating blood, follow these steps to get prepared so you can have a smooth and successful donation experience.
Check if you are eligible
Certain situations, such as your medical condition, where you have travelled, or your lifestyle may make a blood donation unsuitable at the moment. To reduce the chances of having a deferred or unsuccessful donation, take a few moments to check your eligibility.
Make an appointment
We have 5 Bloodbanks where you can make your donation. Make an appointment with us to get priority in the queue and save time.
When you make an appointment online, you may also fill up the Donor Health Assessment Questionnaire and Declaration Form to save time at the Bloodbank.
Get yourself ready
In the weeks before your donation, build a healthy level of iron in your body by consuming iron-rich foods such as spinach and raisins.
As the day approaches, prepare your body [PDF, 6.1 MB] by doing the following:
Drink plenty of water on the day before donation.
Get adequate rest the night before.
Have regular meals on the day of your donation. Make sure you have eaten something or have a light meal 3 hours before donation.
Wear something comfortable, with sleeves that can easily be rolled up above the elbow.
