Recall of Ethicon MERSILK/PERMA-HAND Braided Silk and Virgin Silk Non-absorbable Suture

A Dear Healthcare Professional Letter has been issued by Johnson & Johnson Pte Ltd to inform healthcare professionals about the recall of specific product codes and lots of size 8-0 Ethicon MERSILK/PERMA-HAND Braided Silk and Virgin Silk Non-absorbable Suture which may not meet the requirements for tensile strength through the 5-year full shelf life and could potentially result in suture breakage during use. Any product received moving forward from this recall will be labelled with a 3-year expiration date. Ethicon has not received any complaints or reports of adverse events or injuries related to this issue and there is no anticipated patient safety impact. Healthcare professionals are advised not to use the affected sutures. For patients already given the affected sutures, non-routine post-surgical care is not recommended.
