Updated patient management recommendation on power source for HeartWare™ Ventricular Assist Device (HVAD™) System pump restart

A Dear Healthcare Professional Letter has been issued by Medtronic International Limited, as a follow-up to their earlier communications in January 2021, July 2021 and March 2022, to update healthcare professionals on new patient management recommendation for all users of the HeartWare Ventricular Assist Device (HVAD) Systems. Previously, Medtronic identified a subset of HVAD™ Systems that may experience a delay to restart or failure to restart at a higher rate than the overall population of HVAD Systems. Through ongoing investigation, it is recommended that all healthcare professionals and all HVAD patients, regardless of pump subpopulation, attach a controller AC adapter to the controller prior to a pump restart attempt when possible. Please refer to the letter for details.
