Additional safety precaution with using CERAMENT™|BONE VOID FILLER, CERAMENT™|GENTAMICIN or CERAMENT™|VANCOMYCIN in patients treated for Aneurysmal Bone Cysts or other bone cysts prone to producing large volumes of fluid

Bonesupport AB would like to inform healthcare professionals about an added safety precaution regarding the use of CERAMENT|BONE VOID FILLER, CERAMENT|GENTAMICIN or CERAMENT™|VANCOMYCIN. When the product is used in the treatment of Aneurysmal Bone Cysts (ABCs) or other bone cysts prone to producing large volumes of fluid, the product owner has advised surgeons to apply the product in the form of beads rather than complete void filling, so as to reduce the risk of wound drainage, soft-tissue inflammation and wound breakdown. It is observed that when a bone void is completely filled and the cortical window is sealed off, the developing space between Cerament and the wall of the cyst becomes quickly filled with fluid and the pressure in the void raises. With that, the fluid gets pushed out into the soft tissues and causes serious inflammation. Therefore, a technique was suggested to avoid sealing off the void completely and allow fluid to move constantly into the soft tissues where it is resorbed. Please refer to the letter for details.
