Battery replacement to mitigate battery fault issue for HeartWare™ Ventricular Assist Device System

A Dear Healthcare Professional Letter has been issued by Medtronic International, Ltd. to update healthcare professionals on the battery fault issue of the HeartWare™ Ventricular Assist Device (HVAD™) System, first reported in 2022. Medtronic has implemented a change to the battery configuration mode to mitigate the battery electrical fault issue and will be replacing all affected batteries of the HVAD System. Healthcare professionals are advised to follow the patient management recommendations in the letter and to remind patients to continue using the current batteries until the replacement batteries are received.
