Recall of 3 brands of losartan products found to contain NMBA

The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) would like to alert healthcare professionals on the recall of 3 brands of losartan products detected to contain a nitrosamine impurity, N-nitroso-N-methyl-4-aminobutyric acid (NMBA), that exceeded acceptable levels. The recalled brands are Hyperten tablets supplied by Goldplus Universal Pte Ltd, Losagen tablets supplied by Medicell Pharmaceutical (S) Pte Ltd and Losartas tablets supplied by Apotheca Marketing Pte Ltd. The other losartan products marketed in Singapore (7 other brands of single-ingredient losartan and 5 brands of combination losartan products) are not affected by NMBA contamination. Healthcare professionals are advised to stop prescribing the above affected losartan products, review the treatment needs of patients taking these medicines and switch them to alternatives or other suitable therapies. Please refer to the letter for details.
