Mdm Rahayu Mahzam, Minister of State for Ministry of Digital Development and Information & Ministry of Health,
Ms Charis Chan, Assistant Secretary General/Operations, Singapore Red Cross,
Partners, Donors, Volunteers and Staff

Good evening, and welcome to this very special celebration. It is my great pleasure to have you all here with us today as we commemorate the 10th anniversary of Bloodbank@Westgate Tower. Thank you for joining us in marking this significant milestone.

The Beginnings

2     Bloodbank@Westgate Tower was established in June 2015 as part of our decentralisation strategy to bring essential blood donation services closer to Singapore's western community. As our fourth Bloodbank, it represented our commitment to making blood donation accessible and convenient for the public whilst encouraging more people to become donors.

3     However, establishing a Bloodbank within an office tower presented unique challenges that set it apart from our traditional Bloodbanks, which benefit from natural walk-in traffic. The team had to navigate complex building regulations and security requirements while developing innovative approaches to attract and convince potential donors. I would like to express my sincere gratitude our staff who have been with us since our founding days: Senior Nurse Ruzanah, Nurse Nyo Nyo, Nurse Win Myint, Mr Salvador, Mdm Zuraidah and Mdm Tan Bee Lay. Ruzanah was the team lead during that time. She had to adapt workflows to the commercial setting whilst building cohesion and supporting staff through the transition. Win Myint developed a comprehensive inventory management system that is linked to the daily collection targets, with clear protocols to prevent shortages of supplies and maintain smooth operation at the Bloodbank.

4     Together with the Singapore Red Cross, they have successfully transformed these challenges into opportunities, making Bloodbank@Westgate Tower a preferred donation centre for donors across western Singapore. Today, this Bloodbank has cultivated an impressive regional donor base, with approximately 70% of its donors residing in western Singapore. Thank you all, including the current team led by NO Tiffany, for your dedication and commitment in making this Bloodbank the success it is today.

Recognising Our Champions

5     I must also acknowledge our dedicated Singapore Red Cross volunteers – Mr Perrin, Ms Bee, and Mr Pierre – who helped build the strong and welcoming community spirit that made our mission possible. Ms Bee and Mr Pierre have been volunteering for nearly four years, whilst Mr Perrin has contributed his time for two years. Your collective commitment has laid the solid foundation upon which we continue to build.

Our Impact

6     To date, we have welcomed more than 62,600 donors and collected over 215,000 units of blood at this Bloodbank. It contributes 17% of Singapore's entire blood supply, demonstrating the significant impact this Bloodbank has made to our national blood reserves.

7     As we celebrate this remarkable 10th anniversary, we look ahead with renewed determination and optimism. The success of Bloodbank@Westgate Tower serves as a testament to what we can achieve when we combine innovation, dedication, and community spirit. Together, we will continue to save lives, serve our community, and strengthen Singapore's blood supply for the next decade and beyond.

8     Happy 10th birthday, everyone and here’s to the next chapter of excellence at Bloodbank@Westgate Tower. Thank you.
