Certain situations, such as your medical condition, where you have travelled, or your lifestyle may make a blood donation unsuitable at the moment. To reduce the chances of having a deferred or unsuccessful donation, take a few moments to check your eligibility.

Get yourself ready
In the weeks before your donation, build a healthy level of iron in your body by consuming iron-rich foods such as spinach and raisins.
As the day approaches, prepare your body by doing the following:
- Drink plenty of water on the day before donation.
- Get adequate rest the night before.
- Have regular meals on the day of your donation. Make sure you have eaten something or have a light meal 3 hours before donation.
- Wear something comfortable, with sleeves that can easily be rolled up above the elbow.
