HSA Updates on Johnson & Johnson Vision Care's Second Voluntary Recall of 1 Day Acuvue® TrueEye™ Brand Contact Lenses
The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) is overseeing the voluntary market recall of more affected lots of 1•DAY ACUVUE® TruEyeTM Brand Contact Lens by Johnson & Johnson Vision Care. This second recall was initiated on Wednesday 26 October 2010.
2 The first recall in August 2010 by Johnson & Johnson Vision Care was prompted by overseas reports of eye irritation or discomfort as a result of using this product. The company found that there was an issue in the lens rinsing process on a particular manufacturing line which led to some of the lens not being optimally/properly rinsed.
3 Additional lots that do not meet manufacturing requirements have been identified and are currently being recalled by the company. This was based on a detailed investigation conducted by Johnson & Johnson Vision Care following the August recall. Johnson & Johnson Vision Care has confirmed that no health-related complaints related to these additional lots have been received to date in Singapore or globally.
4 Johnson & Johnson Vision Care has distributed 1557 boxes of the affected lots, each containing 30 lenses to optical outlets in Singapore this year. The affected lot numbers, comprising 10 digits, begin with the 6 digits falling between 492262 – 492476 and between 502099 – 502257 (Please refer to annex for details). The lot numbers are the first 10 digits that are printed at the side of the product box and on the individual blister packs. Globally, there are additional lots that are affected.
5 Johnson & Johnson Vision care has initiated a voluntary recall of the affected lots. This recall is expected to be completed within a week.
