Illicit Drugs Laboratory

The Illicit Drugs Laboratory analyses for the presence of controlled drugs in seizures. Some commonly encountered controlled drugs include the following:

  • Amphetamines (including "Ice" and "Ecstasy" tablets)
  • Benzodiazepines
  • Buprenorphine
  • Cannabis
  • Cocaine
  • Gamma hydroxybutyric acid (GHB)
  • Heroin
  • Ketamine
  • Lysergide acid diethylamide (LSD)
  • New Psychoactive Substances (NPS)
  • Opium

In addition, we assist in the investigation of clandestine drug laboratories.

Our laboratory is well-equipped with advanced analytical instrumentations and supported by a team of experts to identify illicit drugs and quantify substances with statutory limits. We conduct ongoing research and development in the analysis of drugs of abuse to better support the administration of justice.

Our laboratory has achieved accreditation status since 1996. It is currently accredited under the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) Forensic Science Testing programme.
